With an interest in machine learning, IoT, 3D Visualisations, Smart Cities, VR, AR and data augmentation and a background in both academia and industry – Kay applies her computer science background to the built environment.
Kay has worked on a number of collaborative research projects with industry partners such as Viewpoint, the BESA, Your Homes Newcastle, BIM Academy Enterprises Ltd, Ryder Architecture, NBS, National Energy Foundation, Vinci Construction UK, FaulknerBrowns Architects to name a few.
Her work focuses on the interoperability of building models and tools to overcome the technical barriers around data exchange in the built environment, whilst also developing new methods for utilising technology to facilitate user interactions within and around buildings.
Kay started her career developing software for NBS working on some of the early specification products through to the first launch of NBS Plus. She has previously worked at Newcastle University and for a number of new digital media organisations developing solutions for a range of digital formats.
As a Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellow in Digital Living at Northumbria’s Computer Information Sciences Department, Kay also applies her research and knowledge to both undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.
