The export opportunities of BIM for UK companies
by Richard Lane, International Programme Manager, Centre for Digital Built Britain
This Export Opportunities of BIM seminar will consider the current international BIM landscape, an international set of standards based on the British PAS 1192 and growing demand by public procurers is making international trade easier and more attractive.
I will look at the drivers behind the rise in demand for UK BIM expertise and how this increased demand brings export opportunities for UK companies – from large organisations with an international presence to SMEs with skills but no export experience to date.
The work of the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB), where I am International Programme Manager, involves direct engagement with overseas governments and public sector stakeholders to build capacity to adopt and implement standards based on BIM. This enables countries to deliver sustainable infrastructure, supporting their economic development. A secondary benefit is increased opportunities for international trade.
My talk takes an overview of this programme and highlights one recent case study of a partner country whose national BIM implementation using UK and international principles is moving at an impressive pace, with more than 30 projects in the pipeline that require additional BIM expertise.
The global demand for BIM expertise is growing, and it’s based on British principles – this brings fantastic opportunity, creating benefits for infrastructure delivery around the world and increasing trade opportunities.
